Congratulations to DNAAG artist Gus Kelly on being selected as a finalist in the National Capital Art Prize in Canberra. His work, “The Intruder” makes a subtle but powerful comment about invasion and dispossession.
Artist Statement
The natives all stared in awe when they first saw this strange being.
Who was he?
Where did he come from?
What did he come here for?
Sadly, the natives were soon to find out that the coming of this unwanted intruder would soon be the beginning of the end.
Gus has had a successful year, winning both the Saltwater Freshwater Aboriginal Art award and the Koori Mail Indigenous Art Prize in Lismore.
