Statement Pieces from Gai Southwell Manhuti Walkabout Jewellery and Weaving
Where Culture Meets Creativity
Manhuti Walkabout Jewellery and Weaving is the creative vision of Gai Southwell, who brings to life one-of-a-kind pieces inspired by her deep connection to the land and her love of travel.
Established in 2021, Manhuti Walkabout is a business born from years of experience, passion, and dedication to the craft of jewellery and weaving.
Gai is based on the beautiful Dunghutti lands on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales. But while Kempsey may be home, Gai’s heart and inspiration are driven by her travels across Australia, where she gathers treasures from every corner of the country to incorporate into her designs.
A Journey of Creativity and Craftsmanship
Each piece Gai creates is not just jewellery—it’s a story waiting to be told. Whether it’s a necklace, bracelet, or a pair of woven earrings, every item is crafted with love and care, drawing on her experience, the stories of her travels, and her Aboriginal heritage.
The materials she uses are carefully selected for their unique qualities and their ability to enhance the beauty of each design.
By combining natural materials, intricate weaving techniques, and bold design choices, Gai’s work truly stands out.
Manhuti: The Spirit of the Walkabout
The name Manhuti comes from the Dunghutti language, where it means to “travel along” or “walkabout.” It’s a term that resonates deeply with Gai, as her love of travel and exploration is central to her creative process.
“I chose this name because I love to travel around Australia, and as I do, I collect little bits and pieces that I love to turn into deadly jewellery for you to take on your walkabout,” Gai shares.
Uniquely Crafted, Uniquely Yours
One of the things that truly sets Manhuti Walkabout jewellery apart is its individuality.
Whether you’re looking for a delicate, intricate design or a bold, statement piece, there’s something for everyone in her collection.
The earrings range from simple yet elegant creations to vibrant, eye-catching statement pieces in a variety of sizes and colours.
They’re perfect for adding a touch of nature-inspired beauty to any outfit, while also being a conversation starter about the journey and culture behind them.
