Mabel Ritchie Exhibition at the Dunghutti-Ngaku Aboriginal Art Gallery
The Dunghutti-Ngaku Aboriginal Art Gallery is proud to showcase an exhibition of works by local artist Mabel Ritchie.
A Dunghutti woman who grew up at Burnt Bridge, Mabel has been painting for many years. She has had solo exhibitions and has also been an exhibitor in many group exhibitions throughout NSW.
Mabel’s latest exhibition entitled “dhipalayn” – bird in the traditional Dunghutti language – showcases her love of the native and domestic birds she remembers from her childhood. Her works are colourful and highly decorative, combining a range of traditional and contemporary practices.
The coordinator of the gallery, Alan Guihot, was, many years ago, Mabel’s high school art teacher:
“It is wonderful to see Mabel’s growth as an artist. She has developed a distinctive style and her works have a charm and directness that will bring a smile to the face of any viewer.”
Mabel has sold works to buyers throughout Australia and internationally, with one artwork recently sold to visitors from California.
“dipalayn” will be on display from November 13th 2019 at the Dunghutti-Ngaku Aboriginal Art Gallery in the Visitor Information Centre in South Kempsey. An Official Opening of the exhibition will be held on Saturday November 23rd at 2.00 PM
